Data related by George Palmer in 1935.

Mathew Palmer learned the carpenter trade under his uncle, Joseph Kidd. Came to the U.S.A. early 1850. First worked on box cars; later as finisher of coaches at the Eaton Gilbert Car Shops. Mathew and his brothers, William, John and Joe, sent for their mother, George, and Emma in 1850.

William Stevens came to Illinois and located on the Illinois Central Railroad land, ten miles south of Greenville, Illinois.

Grandmother and Grandfather Munton, Martha and George came to Illinois the spring of 1858. They came over from Ohio and Mississippi Railroad to Carlyle. Road ran from Baltimore to St. Louis. Cars were box cars with benches running the length of the cars.

Mathew, father, built on the forty east of where the house now stands. Uncle Joe Palmer built on the forty north and William Palmer, uncle, built on the east.

Mathew's (father's) house was the first on the prairie in this neighborhood. Only two houses could be seen from it, Wesley Wyatt's and one on the Bancroft Knobb.

Henry Sharp wrote an article about the English settlement here and called it Liverpool. Had it printed in the Greenville paper 60 or 65 years ago. The community has been known as Liverpool ever since. School house was and is called the "Palmer School House".

Mathew's uncle Joseph Kidd, came very near going with Sir John Franklin in 1845, seeking a northwest passage to India. Later, he and his family went to Australia. His home life never was very pleasant. He was never heard from after he went to Australia.

Father was a great admirer of Lincoln. Our first team of oxen were called Rock and Rye. First horses were Bill and Fannie. Grandmother Stevens lived with uncle Bill. She was found dead. Her clothes had caught fire, from the fireplace. However, nothing in the room was burned. She was a dear woman, loved by all.

Aunt Emma looked and acted like grandmother. Uncle Johnnie looked like grandfather. John W. looks like our father. He was a kind father and a good man. Mother was a loving mother.

Uncle Bill lived with Grandmother Stevens. All the boys but father lived with her for several years. 1
