Linda Clark:
I married immediately after
graduating high school and moved to University of Virginia where I worked to “put
hubby through.” The marriage ended after 10 years and I began a series of jobs
to support my two young sons. Two jobs stand out as most interesting and
fun: Administrative Assistant at WTAR-TV
where I met many local/national celebrities and did voice-overs for commercials
and as a paralegal for the same firm with Conrad Shumadine (Class of 1959). During
this time, my childhood dream of becoming a nurse was still strong and at the
age of 40 I went back to school and graduated with an RN from Norfolk General
Hospital School of Nursing.
I retired in 2007, after 23
years at Norfolk General as a Preop/Recovery nurse in the Outpatient Surgical
Department. That same year, I married a
wonderful man, Bruce Simmons that I met through eHarmony. Bruce is a civil
engineer with a local firm.
My son, Michael, is a
construction supervisor and has given me three grandsons, Joshua, John and Brian;
and my son, David, just retired from the Navy as a TopGun instructor and has
given me two beautiful granddaughters, Dargan and Delaney.
I now work flex at the
ambulatory surgery center in Virginia Beach and am active in First Baptist
Church Norfolk in missions, most recently to Uruguay.
