George Hughes:
After
graduation I got married to Alyce, my high school
sweetheart, in July 1961 and will celebrated our 49th anniversary in 2010. I
enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for four years in August 1961 until August 1965.
We built our home in Pungo in 1967 and still live
there off and on today. We have three children, Cheryl, Donna and George Jr.
and seven grandchildren - all living in Virginia Beach. I worked at several
jobs before being hired at the Norfolk Ford Assemble Plant - got laid off in 1974
at which time I was hired by the Virginia Beach Fire Department
and retired in 2001 as a Captain. I am a Past President of the
Creeds Ruritan Club and Past Master of Princess Anne
Masonic Lodge #25 in Virginia Beach. We also enjoy riding our Harley Davidsons - we each have one. Have been to
Sturgis, SD, Americade, NY, Myrtle Beach, SC and rode
up and down the East coast and now ride around Florida. We bought
a home in Florida at The Villages - A Senior Retirement Community which is
like an "Adult Disney World" - so many things to do and enjoy
here. We learned to play golf - which we both enjoy - and play several
times a week. It's a 'golf cart' community where you can drive your cart
'anywhere' 24/7. We're called 'snowbirds' because we go back and forth from
Florida to Virginia during the year.
