John Ingram:
After graduating from Princess Anne, I attended Old Dominion
where, after several major changes, I graduated with a B.S. in Health and
Physical Education and later obtained a Master of Education from UVA. While at
Old Dominion, I met my future wife in square dance class and we will celebrate 46
years of marriage in August. I taught and coached 33 years in the Virginia
Beach Public Schools, retiring in 1998. While teaching, I coached football,
track and my first love, baseball. During my baseball coaching career at F.
W. Cox High
School, I was fortunate enough to coach a state
championship in 1996, win several awards as coach of the year and be a
runner-up for national coach of the year. After being happily retired for four
years, my wife decided it was time for me to return to work or she was going to
retire. Fortunately there was a job opening at Cape
Henry Collegiate School
coaching and teaching and I continued for another seven years.
My wife, Arlene, and I have lived in Virginia
Beach our entire married lives and have two grown
children. Our oldest, Jay, is an electrical engineer and our daughter, Allison,
is a CPA who is a consultant. We have a granddaughter, Mackenzie, who is the
apple of our eye. We both are now retired and look forward to traveling and
enjoying the rest of our lives together.
