Barbara Murden:
I married Winston Henley in December of 1961. We have
two sons, Jeff and Bruce, and five grandchildren. Together the family
operates Henley Farms in Pungo, a direct marketing
farm specializing in strawberries, blackberries and vegetables.
I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary
Education and taught in the Virginia Beach school system until
1970. I served on Virginia Beach City Council from 1978-1990,
1994-2002, and 2006 until the present. I served one term as vice
mayor. I returned to Old Dominion University in 1990 and earned a Master
of Urban Studies Degree. Presently, I am running for another term as the
Princess Anne District representative on City Council. I have particularly
been an advocate for smart growth and the conservation of natural
resources. I helped develop the very successful Agricultural Reserve
Program and the Open Space Preservation Program for the City of Virginia Beach.
