Joe Piper:

After high school graduation, I served in the U.S. Air Force for 4 years and 9 months. I was stationed at Langley Air Force Base, Virginia for the full tour and received an honorable discharge as Staff Sergeant.

I then joined the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company working in the Norfolk Radio Shop. I was promoted into the Engineering Department and was responsibility for sizing and timing of central office relief. The C & P Telco became Bell Atlantic, then Verizon. In 1995 after 30 years of service I retired in Richmond, VA from the Phone Company.

Upon retiring, I moved to Grandy, North Carolina, buying a home on the Currituck Sound. I served in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary for five years and was Flotilla Commander. I was my church secretary for three years and I was blessed to be ordained a deacon. After ten years of being retired I started a part time job working at Camp A Rama servicing Recreation (RVs) Vehicles, which includes Motor Homes, 5th Wheel Trailers and Travel Trailers. I continue to enjoy doing this work today.

In 1997 I married Barbara Childress. We have three children of mine and four children of Barbara all grown, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. This year we celebrated 13 years of marriage. We enjoy camping and each year we take a fall two month trip through Pennsylvania., New York, and the New England states, seeing the children and the fall colors.

We attend Fellowship Baptist Church in Moyock, NC and enjoy the fellowship. God has truly blessed me.
