Bob Stakes:
After high school I entered a four year apprenticeship
program in Norfolk Naval Shipyard as an electrician. In 1970 I was hired
as an air traffic controller at Washington Air Route Traffic Control Center in
Leesburg, Virginia. In 1976 I moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico and was
trained as an approach and tower controller. In 1978 I returned to
Washington Center and worked there until 1981. I then moved back to VB and
worked with my father in the family business until 1986. We sold the
company and I went to work with one of our suppliers as an area sales manger
until 2009. I am now retired.
In 1960 I married Betty Cutchin, also
class of '60. We were married for 25 years. Now I have been single
for 25 years and Betty is one of my best friends. We have two fine young
men, Bob Jr. and William Scott and two supper grandchildren, Bobby and Kyndal.
Hobbies and interest include: travel, mostly warm weather. I
have a place in Cozumel Mexico. I work out at
the gym. I am into scuba diving, civil war battle fields, youth sports,
and dining out.
