Connie Wilkins:
It is said that life begins at 40. Mine became infinitely better after the 40th PAHS reunion in 2000. That’s when Al and I discovered we were both single and Al took a leap of faith by leaving Key West to move to San Diego where I lived. We were married soon thereafter.
Before San Diego, I had lived in Arlington, Virginia, and worked most of my life as an elementary school teacher. For five years, I lived in Boothbay, Maine, a beautiful place. By a stroke of exceptionally good luck while there, I had the opportunity to work with a world class educator, learning important and innovative things about teaching. At the end of my first marriage, I moved back to Arlington, Virginia, continuing to work in the public schools until my retirement in 1998. For me, teaching was a fulfilling and creative way to make a living.
Being retired, living in San Diego and sharing my life with Al make this a very special time in my life. We work at keeping healthy and enjoy travel, bridge, movies and a circle of friends. We both look forward to reminiscing with our high school classmates at our 50th reunion.
